Acoustic Minds

AM
(Acoustic Minds at the Bitter End pub)
I first met the girls Jenni and Amanda, while playing with Jeremy Serwer. Jeremy and Acoustic Minds had emarked on a colaborative journey. I was very interested in playing with Jim, as I had really dug his work with Diggabone, and when I was asked to come down and sit in with the whole gig, I was very excited. We had some fabulous jams and great preformances at the Bitter End. The girls of AM and Jeremy performed material of both Acoustic Minds and of Rich Man's Burden and Jim and I just did our best to keep the time and tune. The girls or Jeremy would lead a song, while Jim and I would hold down the groove. At a few Bitter End shows, we even jammed out a bit on some of my ideas.

At some point in this crazy ensemble of half-jam, half-rehearsed material, that was so brilliantly molded into song out of the force of will and mind- reading that this small group had become, Jeremy had to leave. We were all bummed, but we had to carry on. Having only the girls, Jim and myself, we needed a bit more to fill out the night and provide the truly special experience that playing at the Bitter End pub should be. We brought into the fold the super talented songwriting and vocal ability of Alton Spencer, who I had also been playing with at the time in the Alton Spencer Group.

It was at this time that we were graced with the addition of Mel Cooper, who I had worked with before in both ASG, and with my good friend Doug Mateer (during an earlier and as of yet unnamed attepmt at stardom). Mel is nothing short of a legend in Portland, and has a heavy fusion style like no other guitarist I have ever played with. I someday hope to get Mel and Jeremy in the same room at the same time, but sadly that has not happend yet.
